Business Development Manager – Energy Management Services

Job purpose/Position summary

Responsible for developing business opportunities that leverage NaturEner’s energy management services platform including building the market, defining the offering, and attracting and signing new clients for energy management services (i.e., Balancing Authority, GO/GOP, Wind and Solar Generation Forecasting, Site Monitoring, and Remote Operations management services).

Duties and responsibilities

  • Define NaturEner’s total Energy Service offering, value proposition and market positioning
  • Develop a detailed business plan in collaboration with the Executive Team that includes a Go To Market Strategy and Customer Acquisition Roadmap
  • Prospect for new opportunities and/or progress existing development projects, manage contract negotiation, support implementation, and hand-off to Operations with support from many groups
  • Assist with presenting projects for internal investment approvals
  • Identify renewable energy and related business opportunities which includes maintaining active communication with others in the power generation business and, at times, conducting ongoing research to determine market dynamics
  • Determine project economics and technical characteristics in conjunction with other departments
  • Compile reports to management and make recommendations for course of action
  • Manage and coordinate activities within the Company and with outside consultants to ensure due diligence processes are fully implemented
  • Prepare milestone schedules and budgets on projects for management approval
  • Create and negotiate service level agreements to drive improved business performance
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions, and project-related agreements
  • Prepare RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs
  • Ensure services are clearly defined, scalable, sustainable, and meet budgetary objectives
  • Demonstrate and communicate a complete understanding of Energy Service technologies through an expert knowledge of building applications functionality, end-user operations, and customer requirement


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or comparable technical degree; or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of business development experience, preferably within the Energy/Utility/Balancing Authority (BA) industry
  • 5+ years of experience within the energy industry
  • 2+ years of experience working with a 24/7 real-time system operations control center
  • Proven track record of converting opportunities and managing accounts within the Energy and Utilities industries
  • Balancing Authority experience and knowledge is required
  • Prior experience in energy management, forecasting, remote operations and monitoring, project development, renewable and distributed generation, interconnection and transmission, and independent power business strongly preferred

Location/Working conditions

Position is located in San Francisco, California

Works primarily in an office environment

Position will require significant travel (±50%)
