Project Manager – Wild Rose

Job purpose/Position summary

Responsible for developing and managing project plans, detailed project schedules, and project control functions of NaturEner’s Wild Rose renewable energy projects in Canada through all phases of the project life cycle including development, financing, competitive bidding, contract negotiation, engineering, procurement, construction and other critical path milestones; and for monitoring and controlling projects to achieve project objectives within constraints including scope, schedule, quality, budget and risk management.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Wild Rose Project Team to develop project plans based on objectives, requirements and constraints; define project milestones, critical path items and project milestone inter-dependencies; develop and manage detailed project schedules including tracking and updating project schedules to adjust for changes in scope, cost and existing conditions
  • Prepare submissions/bids into the Alberta Renewable Electricity Program procurement process, including the Expression of Interest (EOI), Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and Request for Proposals (RFP) stages; may also be responsible for managing projects elsewhere in North America
  • Schedule and manage regularly scheduled Project Team meetings with the internal Project Team and any external consultants as necessary, including the development and management of a project “dashboard” to track and manage critical project tasks, inputs, and changes to the project schedule, and the delivery and responsibility/accountability of projects tasks
  • Interface directly with internal team members and discipline leads including Development, Engineering & Construction, Legal, Commercial, Finance, Accounting, Operations and the Company’s Senior Executive Team
  • Communicate the status of project schedules and project-related requirements to the Senior Executive Team on a regular basis
  • Provide timely and accurate monitoring, prediction, control and reporting of the work that was scheduled to be done, the work that has been done in a reporting period and to date, and the work required to be done for project completion
  • Prepare schedule projections and provide timely notice to the Project Team for each kind of deviation and/or key issues that could affect the critical path schedule
  • Identify “slippages” early and actively manage them to bring the schedule back on track
  • Subdivide larger schedules into more detailed, phased tasks and sub-projects for ease of management review and oversight
  • Consult with Project Team on issues and matters related to project control, expenditures, forecasts, and cost estimates for new and authorized work
  • Prepare monthly analyses and reports on expenditures, progress, commitments, budget performance and schedule performance for the projects
  • Develop a Project Team organizational chart, including definitions of Project Team members’ roles and responsibilities
  • Manage the preparation of the RFP/RFQ response submission in collaboration with the Project Team including the coordination of the preparation and management of bid documents, and ensure appropriate input is received on time by Project Team members
  • Develop a project risk register and risk mitigation management plan
  • Support project developers in developing the project and provide risk management assistance to secure power-off take arrangements, financing agreements, equity acquisition agreements, and requests for proposals (RFPs) related to the projects/sites for which the developer is responsible
  • Work in partnership with Project Team to assure a seamless transition of projects into the construction phase
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and organization of data/information pertaining to NaturEner’s developing assets
  • Act as the liaison for all relevant NaturEner departments to ensure information related to NaturEner’s developing assets is communicated clearly and effectively
  • Provide support for Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor Request for Bids process, bid preparation, bid and document management, and contract negotiations
  • Assist with the ongoing management of competitive analysis efforts in competitive bid processes


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Economics or a related field
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) designation preferred
  • 10+ years of project management, project administration or project controls experience, preferably in the area of power generation or large energy infrastructure projects
  • Experience developing and executing complex project schedules utilizing state-of-the art scheduling tools
  • Experience developing and managing project plans with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience implementing controls to track and monitor projects
  • Experience handling time-sensitive tasks and meeting deadlines; outstanding time management capabilities
  • Experience managing competitive bid processes in the United States and Canada, especially in Alberta, is desired
  • Experience with commercial contract administration is desired
  • Experience managing renewable energy projects is desired
  • Experience managing projects with complex commercial, regulatory and technical issues is desired
  • Strong understanding of the power generation industry and regulators in the United States and Canada, with an emphasis on Alberta, is desired
  • Strong team player who works collaboratively and effectively with others
  • Strong proficiency in use of Microsoft Office
  • Must be extremely flexible to adapt to changing priorities
  • Highly motivated self-starter; proactive and willing to take initiative


  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead multi-disciplined teams of developers, engineers and outside consultants
  • Proven ability to manage large scale infrastructure projects to successful completion
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills; ability to set and exceed established goals, schedules and deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound decision-making abilities; ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations
  • Ability to effectively prioritize workflow and stay on top of constantly changing priorities and projects; ability to complete work within tight and changing deadlines
  • Ability to use project scheduling software and methodology to monitor resources, schedules and contract requirements
  • Ability to anticipate issues before they arise and proactively recommend creative solutions to problems
  • Ability to work well independently and complete responsibilities with little or no supervision

Location/Working conditions

Position will be based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada or San Francisco, California, USA

Works primarily in an office environment

Position will require travel (±20%)
